Clothing for Your Procedure Day: Comfort, Garments and Easy Changes

Short answer: Think easy changes: loose, dark, comfortable clothing that opens or slips off easily, flat slip-on shoes and no jewellery. Skip lotions, oils and self-tan on treatment areas. Your going-home outfit should be roomy enough for swelling and, after conventional liposuction, for a compression garment underneath.

It sounds like a small detail, but what you wear on procedure day affects how easy it is to change, how comfortable you feel on the way back and how relaxed you are overall. This guide covers procedure-day clothing for liposuction and for LAMS (Local Anesthetic Minimal-Invasive Liposuction): comfort, garments, quick changes and what to avoid. The clinic's own instructions always come first.

Why does your outfit matter on procedure day?

You will usually change into a gown before treatment, so your clothing is mostly about arriving and leaving. After the procedure you may feel:

  • Tender: bending, twisting and pulling clothes over the treated area can be uncomfortable.
  • Swollen: treated areas may be larger than usual for a while.
  • Damp at entry points: some fluid, including the local anaesthetic solution, can leak from the small entry points for a day or two.
  • Tired or light-headed: especially after sedation or general anaesthesia.

Easy, roomy clothing makes all of this simpler. It also avoids pressure on fresh entry points.

What should you wear for conventional liposuction?

Because conventional liposuction normally involves sedation or a general anaesthetic, and you go home already zipped into a compression garment, everything you pack for the return trip has to fit over that extra layer.

  • Top: a loose, front-opening shirt, cardigan or zip hoodie, so you do not have to lift your arms overhead, which matters especially after arm or back treatment.
  • Bottoms: wide-leg trousers, joggers with a soft elasticated waist or a loose maxi skirt. Choose a size up if you are unsure.
  • Underwear: soft, breathable and roomy. The clinic may advise what to wear under the garment.
  • Shoes: flat slip-ons or slides with grip. You should not need to bend to fasten them.

Because you have had sedation or general anaesthesia, someone should accompany you back to your accommodation. Our guide to compression garments explains how they feel and how long they are typically worn.

What should you wear for LAMS?

With LAMS you are numbed locally and conscious throughout, and you will not be fitted with a compression garment afterwards. That leaves your clothing choices more open, though comfort still comes first.

  • Loose clothing over the treated area to avoid rubbing on entry points.
  • Dark colours in case of minor fluid leakage.
  • A warm layer, since you are awake and treatment rooms can feel cool.
  • Easy shoes, particularly after thigh, calf or abdominal LAMS.

Many people walk out and return to light activities fairly soon after LAMS, but swelling and bruising are possible, so it is better to plan for comfort than style. Learn more on our awake liposuction page.

How should you dress for specific treatment areas?

Abdomen, flanks or back

Choose high, soft waistbands that sit above or well below the treated area, or a loose dress. Avoid belts and tight waistbands.

Arms

Pick wide, short or loose sleeves and front-opening tops. Lifting your arms overhead may be uncomfortable for a few days.

Thighs, knees or calves

Wear wide-leg trousers, a loose skirt or a dress. Avoid skinny jeans and leggings that press on entry points. Slip-on shoes are especially helpful.

Face or chin

A front-opening or wide-neck top avoids pulling clothes over your face. Bring a scarf or loose hood if you would like some privacy on the way back.

What should you avoid on your body and skin?

  • Lotions, body oils and self-tan on treatment areas, as they can interfere with skin preparation and markings.
  • Jewellery and piercings where possible; you may be asked to remove them.
  • Heavy make-up, especially for facial treatment.
  • Nail polish or gel nails if the clinic asks, as some monitoring devices clip to a fingertip.
  • Contact lenses if you are having sedation or general anaesthesia; bring glasses.
  • Valuables: leave them at your accommodation.
  • Strong perfume, out of consideration in a clinical setting.

Shower as instructed before your appointment. If you are having sedation or general anaesthesia, follow fasting instructions exactly. For a full timeline, see our pre-treatment checklist.

What should be in your procedure-day bag?

  • Passport or ID and appointment details.
  • Your medication and allergy list.
  • Phone, charger and earphones.
  • A spare pair of dark, loose bottoms and underwear.
  • A small towel or absorbent pad for the journey back.
  • Water and a light snack for after the procedure, if allowed.
  • Glasses and lens case if needed.

365mc's international coordinators can tell you about anything specific the clinic provides on the day, so you do not overpack.

Travelling to the clinic in different weather

Think about the journey as well as the appointment. In hot weather, choose breathable cotton and carry water. In cold weather, a long, loose coat that zips or buttons at the front is easier than a fitted jacket or anything pulled over your head. An umbrella is useful in the rainy season, when you may be waiting for a taxi outside the clinic.

What should you wear in the days after?

Keep the same principles for the first week: loose, soft, dark and easy to put on. After conventional liposuction, follow your doctor's advice on wearing the compression garment day and night. Avoid tight waistbands or shapewear unless recommended. As swelling eases, you can gradually return to your usual wardrobe.

Quick FAQs

Will I need to undress completely?

You will usually change into a gown and disposable underwear provided by the clinic. Staff will explain what to remove.

Can I wear a sports bra?

A soft, non-wired bra is usually fine and may be comfortable. Front-fastening styles are easier after arm or back treatment. Ask the clinic if you are unsure.

Should I wear shapewear instead of a compression garment?

No. Use only the garment your doctor recommends, as fit and pressure matter during healing. LAMS does not require a garment at all.

Can I wear make-up for facial LAMS?

Arrive with a clean face. You can ask the team when it is suitable to wear make-up again.

What if I forget something?

Do not worry. Seoul has plenty of shops and pharmacies, and the clinic team can usually help.

If you would like to know which method, and therefore which outfit, fits your plan, ask a coordinator for a personalised plan; a video consultation before you travel works well for this.

Always follow your own clinic's instructions over general tips like these, which are not medical advice. Suitability, recovery and results differ between people and are confirmed by a doctor in person.
