Thigh Liposuction in Korea: Inner Thighs, Outer Thighs and Saddlebags

In short: Surgeons in Korea tend to plan thigh liposuction one zone at a time: inner thighs, outer thighs (often called saddlebags), the front, the back and sometimes the knee. Each zone has different fat texture, skin thickness and risk of unevenness. Most people who travel for it plan around one to two weeks in Seoul, depending on the method and how many zones are treated.
Thighs are one of the most common areas people ask about, but they are also one of the most technically demanding. The thigh is a long, curved surface where small differences between left and right are easy to see. This guide explains how surgeons think about each zone, so you can have a sharper conversation at your consultation.
Which parts of the thigh can liposuction treat?
Surgeons rarely treat the thigh as one block. Instead, they map it into zones that blend into each other:
- Inner thighs: the soft area where the thighs touch, especially the upper third near the groin.
- Outer thighs and saddlebags: the fat pad that sits just below the hip bone on the side of the leg.
- Front thighs: the area above the knee and over the large front muscle.
- Back thighs and banana roll: the back of the thigh and the small fold just below the buttock crease.
- Inner knee: a small pocket of fat that can make the leg line look less tapered.
Treating only one zone can sometimes leave a step or ridge where treated and untreated areas meet. That is why many surgeons talk about circumferential thigh contouring, where several zones are treated in proportion to each other. More zones does not automatically mean a better outcome, though; it means more recovery, so the plan should follow your anatomy and goals.
Inner thigh liposuction: what to expect
Inner thigh fat is often soft, and the skin here is thinner and less elastic than on the outer thigh. That combination means the surgeon usually removes fat more conservatively, because over-treatment can lead to rippling or loose skin.
Who inner thigh liposuction may suit
- People with soft, pinchable fat on the upper inner thigh that has not changed with steady exercise and diet.
- People whose skin snaps back quickly when gently pinched and released.
- People whose main goal is reducing chafing or improving the line from groin to knee.
Who it may not suit
- People whose main concern is crepey or hanging skin rather than fat. Skin tightening or, occasionally, a thigh lift may be discussed instead.
- People hoping liposuction will create a thigh gap, which depends largely on hip and pelvic bone structure.
You can read more about the zone itself on the inner thigh liposuction page.
Outer thigh and saddlebag liposuction
The saddlebag area is one of the most stubborn fat stores, particularly in women, and it often stays put even after significant weight loss elsewhere. The fat here tends to be firmer and more fibrous, with thicker skin, which generally responds well to careful liposuction.
The main challenge is blending. The saddlebag sits between the hip, the buttock and the side of the thigh. If the surgeon removes too much in one spot, you can see a dent; too little, and the bulge remains. A careful surgeon will assess you standing, mark the area in that position and plan how the outer thigh flows into the hip and buttock. The outer thigh liposuction page covers this area in more detail.
Surgical liposuction or LAMS for thighs?
There are two broad routes. Conventional liposuction is typically done under general anaesthesia or sedation and suits larger volumes or several thigh zones treated together. A compression garment is worn afterwards, and at 365mc the 7-week Orange Care aftercare programme supports recovery.
LAMS (Local Anesthetic Minimal-Invasive Liposuction) numbs only the thigh being treated, so you remain conscious and can chat with the team. Fat is removed through a narrow cannula (the thin suction tube), and you will not need a compression garment afterwards. It can suit smaller, well-defined pockets such as the saddlebag or inner thigh. The thigh LAMS page explains the method.
How the two compare
- Volume: conventional liposuction handles more fat in one session; LAMS is typically for more targeted areas, with Infinite LAMS as an extended option for larger or multiple areas.
- Anaesthesia: general or sedation versus local only.
- Recovery: LAMS recovery is usually shorter, but swelling and bruising still happen with both.
- Garments: compression garment for conventional liposuction; none required for LAMS.
Which route you take is decided after a doctor has examined your thighs, gone through your health and medicines, and heard what you want to change.
Recovery after thigh liposuction
Thighs carry your weight all day, so swelling tends to settle downwards and linger. Here is a realistic outline:
- First few days: tightness, tenderness and bruising, especially on the inner thigh. Gentle walking is encouraged to support circulation. Our guide to bruising and swelling explains what is typical.
- First two weeks: most people return to desk-based work, depending on the method and number of zones. Swelling may make the thighs look larger before they look smaller.
- Weeks three to seven: firmness and lumpiness gradually soften. Structured aftercare, such as radiofrequency, vacuum massage and other sessions, may help with comfort and smoothing.
- Three to six months: the shape continues to refine as residual swelling resolves.
Thigh swelling can take longer to settle than on the arms or abdomen, so it helps to judge the result after several months rather than weeks.
Risks and side effects to know about
Liposuction is surgery and carries real risks. On the thighs, the ones discussed most often are:
- Bruising, swelling and temporary numbness.
- Contour irregularities such as dents, ripples or asymmetry between the legs.
- Loose skin, particularly on the inner thigh if elasticity is limited.
- Fluid collection (seroma), infection or delayed healing at entry points.
- Blood clots in the legs, which is why early walking and medical screening matter.
Think of thigh liposuction as a change in proportion rather than in weight. The fat cells left in place can still grow if your weight climbs later.
What affects the cost of thigh liposuction?
You will not find a published price list, partly because Korean rules on advertising medical fees are strict. Instead, your quote is shaped by:
- How many thigh zones are treated, and whether they are combined with knees, hips or buttocks.
- The estimated fat volume. Each thigh zone is a separate line for surgery, whereas LAMS is charged by the volume (bottles) taken out.
- The method and anaesthesia chosen.
- The aftercare plan included.
At 365mc the fee for a given thigh procedure is the same at every branch. Visitors from abroad can also ask about reclaiming VAT on eligible fees, provided they leave the country within three months.
Planning your trip to Seoul
- Length of stay: plan roughly one to two weeks, allowing for consultation, surgery and early check-ups.
- Flights: long flights mean hours of sitting, which matters after leg surgery. Ask your surgeon when it is reasonable to fly and how to reduce clot risk on board.
- Clothing: pack loose trousers or long skirts, and a garment-friendly wardrobe if conventional liposuction is planned.
- Aftercare: your aftercare sessions can be used within six months at the hospital that treated you, and check-ins continue by messaging app after you fly home.
Your questions, answered
Can inner and outer thighs be treated in one session?
Often, yes, if the total volume and your health allow it. Your doctor will weigh volume, anaesthesia and recovery before recommending combining zones.
Will thigh liposuction create a thigh gap?
Not necessarily. A visible gap depends heavily on pelvic width and the angle of your thigh bones. Liposuction can reduce inner thigh fat, but it cannot change bone structure.
How long before I can walk normally?
Walking is encouraged from the first day. Many people move stiffly for a few days, then gradually return to their usual pace.
Do I need to lose weight before thigh liposuction?
Liposuction is generally most suitable for stubborn fat when you are near a stable, healthy weight. If you are planning significant weight loss, it is usually sensible to do that first.
When will I see the final result?
You may notice a change once early swelling settles, but the thigh shape typically keeps refining for three to six months.
Whether you are thinking about inner thighs, saddlebags or several zones, you can have your thighs assessed online first; a free video consultation helps a doctor suggest the zones, method and length of stay before you book.
These notes are general and do not amount to medical advice. Which thigh zones can be treated, and how you heal, is confirmed by a doctor at an in-person examination and differs from person to person.
