What to Pack for a Liposuction Trip to Korea

What to know first: The essentials are simple: your passport and medical information, loose dark-coloured clothing, absorbent pads or old towels, a water bottle, comfortable slip-on shoes, your regular medicines and travel gear for an easy flight home. Keep documents, medicines and aftercare instructions in your hand luggage.

Packing for a medical trip is different from packing for a holiday. You will spend part of your stay resting, moving carefully and attending appointments, so comfort and practicality matter more than outfits. This liposuction trip packing list is organised by category, with notes on what changes for LAMS (Local Anesthetic Minimal-Invasive Liposuction) versus conventional liposuction.

Which documents and information should you bring?

  • Passport: valid for your whole stay. Keep it handy at the clinic too, as it is needed if you claim back VAT on eligible cosmetic fees.
  • Booking confirmations: flights, accommodation and clinic appointments.
  • Medical summary: your conditions, past surgeries, allergies and any problems with anaesthesia, in English if possible.
  • Medication list: names and doses of everything you take, including supplements. Your doctor assesses this before treatment.
  • Recent test results: if your clinic or home doctor has them.
  • Travel insurance details: check what your policy covers for planned medical treatment.
  • Clinic contact details: address in Korean and English, and the coordinator's messaging contact.

Keep digital copies on your phone and printed copies in your bag. Our pre-treatment checklist lists what the clinic may ask for.

What clothing should you pack for recovery?

For everyone

  • Loose, soft tops and bottoms: elasticated waistbands, wide-leg trousers and front-opening tops are easiest to put on when you are tender.
  • Dark colours: some fluid may drain from entry points in the first day or two, and dark fabric is more forgiving.
  • Comfortable underwear: breathable cotton, a size larger than usual if you expect swelling.
  • Slip-on shoes: bending to tie laces can be uncomfortable after abdominal or thigh treatment.
  • A light layer: clinics and planes can be cool, and Korean seasons vary widely.

After conventional liposuction

You will wear a compression garment, usually provided or advised by the clinic. Pack clothing loose enough to fit over it, and bring spare underwear or a thin layer to wear underneath if the clinic recommends it. Our guide to compression garments explains what to expect.

After LAMS

LAMS does not require a compression garment, so you may feel more comfortable in normal loose clothing sooner. Swelling and tenderness are still possible, so pack soft, roomy outfits rather than fitted ones.

Which comfort and recovery items help most?

  • Absorbent pads or old towels to protect the bed and sofa.
  • A reusable water bottle to keep hydrated.
  • A travel pillow and an extra small cushion for support in bed or on the plane.
  • Easy snacks you know agree with you, though Korean convenience stores are well stocked.
  • Lip balm and moisturiser for dry air in planes and heated rooms.
  • Entertainment: books, downloaded shows or podcasts for rest days.
  • Long phone charging cable so you can rest without stretching.
  • Wet wipes and gentle body wash, unscented if your skin is sensitive.

What medicines and health items should you pack?

  • Regular medicines: enough for your whole trip plus a few extra days, in original packaging, in hand luggage.
  • A letter or prescription for any controlled or injectable medicines, so you can explain them at customs.
  • Your usual basics: plasters and any personal items you rely on.

Do not bring or start new painkillers, herbal remedies or supplements without checking with your doctor, as some affect bleeding or healing. The clinic will advise which medicines are suitable after your procedure. If you use a GLP-1 medicine such as Wegovy, Mounjaro or Ozempic, discuss it with your prescribing doctor and the clinic before you travel.

What travel gear makes the trip easier?

  • A suitcase with four wheels: easier to push than pull when you should avoid heavy lifting.
  • A light backpack or cross-body bag for appointments.
  • Compression stockings for the flight if your doctor recommends them.
  • A universal plug adaptor: Korea uses type C and F sockets.
  • A transport card or app for taxis and the subway.
  • A payment card that works abroad and a little local currency.

Leave room in your luggage for any garments, dressings or medicines provided by the clinic. Our page on flying after treatment has more tips for the journey home.

Packing for the season

Seoul has four distinct seasons. In summer, pack breathable cotton and a small fan, since heat and humidity can make swelling feel more uncomfortable. In winter, bring a warm coat that is roomy enough to wear over loose layers, plus gloves and a hat, as you will be waiting for taxis and walking between appointments. Spring and autumn call for light layers you can add or remove easily.

What can you leave at home?

  • Tight jeans, bodycon dresses and shapewear you have not been advised to wear.
  • Heavy jewellery, which you may be asked to remove on procedure day.
  • Gym kit, unless you are staying long enough to be cleared for exercise.
  • Too many outfits; you will likely wear the same comfortable clothes on repeat.
  • Self-tan and heavy body oils, which should not be on treatment areas on the day.

Hand luggage checklist for the flight home

  1. Passport and any tax refund paperwork.
  2. Medicines and written aftercare instructions.
  3. Clinic contact details and coordinator messaging contact.
  4. Water bottle (fill after security) and light snacks.
  5. A warm layer and a small pillow.
  6. Spare underwear and a small pack of pads, in case of minor drainage.

Common questions

Do I need to bring my own compression garment?

Usually not. For conventional liposuction the clinic will advise on the garment. LAMS does not require one. Ask your coordinator before you pack.

What should I wear on the plane to Korea?

Before the procedure, wear whatever is comfortable. For the flight home, choose loose layers that fit over any garment and allow you to move freely.

Can I buy recovery items in Seoul?

Yes. Pharmacies, convenience stores and department stores stock most basics, but it is easier to arrive with what you need for the first days.

Should I pack for cold or hot weather?

Check the forecast. Seoul summers are hot and humid, winters are cold, and indoor spaces may be air-conditioned or heated.

How much luggage should I bring?

Travel light. You should avoid lifting heavy bags while healing, so a manageable suitcase is better than several.

Not sure whether your plan means packing for a garment or not? Message an English-speaking coordinator before you book flights; an online or video consultation can settle the method first, so your suitcase matches the recovery you will actually have.

Packing advice here is practical, not medical. Whether a treatment suits you, and how your recovery and results unfold, can only be confirmed by a doctor after examining you in person.
